BILL'S BIO PAGE

A MUSICIAN'S LIFE IT IS...

Bill has been a performer all his life, with music being the best way he could achieve his lifelong desire to perform professionally. His first love in life was singing at a very young age, then started playing French Horn in school (all through college), and then he learned  guitar, taking lessons when he was 14 years old. The guitar became the first instrument he could teach music with, and by 18 years old, he was teaching in the same store where he took his original lessons.

Bill went on to get a Bachelor's Degree at Bradley University in Music Composition, where he began to write for ensembles and orchestra while in college. After graduation, his professional life in music started, first in his continuing job teaching guitar, and then he also joined several bands, playing styles as varied as horn bands, rock 'n roll, 4 part vocal bands, fusion bands, country music, polka music, folk music, and even old-time western music, ala the Sons of the Pioneers.

Somewhere during this time, Bill began to write his own songs, while studying other song writers, like Jackson Browne, Janis Ian, Guy Clark, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, and Harry Chapin. His songs mostly tend to tell stories (the Chapin effect) about real people and life moments.

Since then, Bill has written hundreds of songs, and has produced 3 of his own CDs that are available to his listeners. Over the last 4 years, he has teamed up with several co writing songwriters, and honed his craft even further.

THE PAST 5 YEARS...

The past 5 years have showed Bill and his guitar instruction duties have expanded very nicely!  He has now been on staff at the Kerrville Folk Festival Song School ( run by Steve Seskin ) for the past 7 years, and at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Song School ( run by Steve Symanski) every year since 2008 (15 continous years), and Bill does several workshops across the country (including the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance Conference, the Houston Songwriters Association, and this year at Little Grassy Winter Songwriter retreat in Illinois, and at the Montrose Festival in South Dakota in July!

Bill also serves several of his Patreon followers with guitar instruction, including his work with altered tunings/multiple capos, and spends a lot of time teaching students how to master 3 string Travis Picking (he has a 5 step program to help the students to become quite proficient, very quickly).  The upper tiers of Bill's Patreon are dedicated to students who want to learn more about playing the guitar.
